I promised an update but with moving, selling our old place, and then my phone took a swim and, well, it's been a bit crazy getting to my pictures. However, I'm rectifying that problem now. We pretty much have a completely new house and it's incredible! As I said before, you can't find contractors who will work faster (while still doing a great job)! Our total project from after permit approval (not counting that time since the city took 2 months!) through final inspections was only 4 months! 1100 sqft to a little over 2000, adding a whole second storey, new kitchen, new almost everything! Previous review has more details but I think the picture I uploaded speaks for itself!
Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Aug 7, 2015Previous reviewWe're still in the works on our renovation project with Real Construction, but wow is it looking incredible and it's gone up SO fast! We're completely renovating an older 2 bedroom/1 bathroom and making it into an incredible 4 bedroom/2 bathroom with a whole second floor, adding central A/C and heat throughout, completely remodeling the kitchen, adding a laundry room, etc. Needless to say, this is a BIG job, but we are so happy with the work that Sion, Asi, and Real Construction have been doing! I'll post pictures, but truly even the pictures don't do it justice. It's really only taken them about 2 months to build us pretty much a brand new house and the quality of the materials and workmanship is excellent.
Sion was actually referred to me by a family member who had worked with him before a number of times and he's been hands on every step of the way. He's been mindful of our budget, needs, and timeline. He's really made a point of involving us in the decision-making process, for both big and little decisions, which is what we wanted. It's really exciting to get to know our house inside and out like this and that's really thanks to Sion and Asi taking the time to show us all the components and explaining everything to us.
Because we're waiting for the renovations to be done before selling our old place and moving into the new one, time really does mean money for us. They've been amazing at getting everything ready to go as quickly as possible! I don't think I've ever seen a contractor as diligent at pushing to get the plans done, permits approved, and getting the work going. He's early to our meetings and he's great at responding to calls, texts, and emails - how many people can say that about their contractor? Seriously, sometimes he has to track ME down, not the other way around! It's fantastic knowing he's staying on top of everything.
Once the project is done, I'll update with pics of the completed house, but in the meantime I wanted to share our experience so far with Real Construction. - Mark H.Torrance, CA4212632Sep 16, 2016
To start, we have all plans and permits ready and paid for. We were ready to execute when we sought out contractors for bidding.
First contact: Rep did not show up due to miscommunication. Sion personally apologized and arranged to come out himself. He requested electronic copies of the approved plans. When we sat down at our residence, he had printed out his own full size prints from the pdf files we sentand was prepared to discuss the details of the drawings. He is a civil engineer and it reflected in his depth of knowledge beyond what I would expect a GC to know. I had to call the architect to get some clarifications and this is after I have sat down with 3 other contractors already.
He submitted a written bid at the sit down and after we had time to review his proposal, he answered my questions within 24 hours. He wasn't the most detailed, but it was sufficient for us to understand and compare with other bids. His initial bid was very competitive and we know where the cost increases will be based upon the quality of finish we are looking at.
Reviewing his license, he has a Class B (general contractor) AND a Class A (engineering contractor)!!! His license dates back to 1981 for the B license and 1996 for his A license. Go to cslb.ca.gov license # 407061 to verify yourself. He also looks to be up to date on insurance with no complaints to CSLB.
Through the initial discussions, Sion offered up a few suggestions on improving the aesthetics and functionality. We will take those under advisement, but requested the bid against the drawings as-is so we can compare contractors fairly.
Upon review of all offerors, we selected Real Construction. 1) They have excellent references in the south bay/culver city area. 2) Sion has a Class A and B license. 3) They were lower priced for the same scope of work (typically a danger sign, but I'll address this more later).
It took two iterations to agree to the scope, payment schedule, terms, and final price. Terms included us remaining at the residence during construction. It was a fair and straightforward exercise. No games, no fuss.
Since starting, communication has been excellent. They are available via email, text, and phone and are very responsive. Sion explains each step and the following steps so you are well informed. He is patient and willing to work with our desires and needs. The subs he uses have, for the most part, been professional and very knowledgeable. Sion and his subseven have some, I'll call them passionate, discussions... which I find is a good thing. It means everyone cares to do the job right and not blindly do what they are told. Experts in their fields, they include us in the discussions to ensure what they are going to do will meet or exceed our expectations. As a project engineer myself, I totally enjoy this and appreciate the attention to detail.
Sion was present almost 90% of the days throughout the project. He was there before 7am (mostly because he wanted to beat traffic down).
Now we are in the final throws of the project. Sion completed the bulk of his contract in 18 weeks, right about when he thought he would be done. So, he held his promised schedule in spite of a few issues along the way.
Overall summary:
For the rough work, Sion is on top of the game. The detailed work required some arm wrestling and discussion.
Communication is generally very good. Though Sion can get stuck on an idea and you have to be patient to let him get it all out before he hears you. After I figured that out, it was easy to deal with him. He is responsive to phone calls, emails, and texts. He can get a little emotional if you don't do exactly what he thought you would do, but hey, he's human and not a machine. I'm ok with that.
Integrity: Sion didn't do anything to make me question his integrity. He worked hard and he kept his word. There were a few times when we remembered things differently, but I believe that those are honest differences and not an attempt to mislead or increase the price.
The one real complaint I have is that he was on contract to keep the grounds clean each day since we are living through the construction. We called him on it the first week when the workers were leaving meal boxes and drink cans on the ground. He promised it wouldn't happen again. Unfortunately, that didn't hold. Rather than risking making the workers upset and potentially decreasing quality, we acted as the clean up crew ourselves. An annoyance, but if you are OCD, you're going to have to deal with it. On the flip side, Sion swears he will never take on another project where folks are living through it. To his credit, he did take longer to keep the dust level to a manageable and livable level for us. He probably could have gone a lot faster if we had vacated completely.
I highly recommend his Electrical and Plumbing contractors. Definitely two standout groups.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Rose S.Glendale, CA26193Mar 11, 2015
I would like to take a moment to write this review for a well deserved company named Real Construction. My husband and I bought a house in Glendale, CA due to our finances we were only able to buy a house that needed lots of renovations. There are a lot of construction companies out there and ohhh boyyyy was it hard to find a decent company whom we could trust. After many phone calls and appointments with different companies, no one was able to satisfy our needs, until I've contacted Real Construction. After my appointment with Asi I was very pleased with his work and professionalism. Asi provided us sketches and photos of our home, and didn't rush through appointment with us, explained every details to us, answered all of our questions. They also provide us with a clear vision of our home upon completion of the project. I was amazed by his and the companies friendly, organized and dedicated staff to their customers. When Asi and his team started their project on our home they were not interfering with our daily, busy lives. They were very responsible and ethical in their work. The team was considered of our feelings, opinions and suggestions thorough out the whole time. Also the amazing part about this whole experience is that Asi and the Real Construction team was able to complete the project earlier then anticipated, which made me reallyyyyy happy. At the end they have exceeded all of my expectations. My beautiful kitchen and master bathroom looks breath taking, our now newly raised ceiling is magical. You can tell right away that my kitchen, master bathroom and raised ceilings were done with care and true professionals. I will be definitely coming back to Real Construction for my future needs in renovating my house. Thank you Asi for you amazing work, thank you making my house look and feel like true home. You and your team are amazing and your dedication to you customers is irreplaceable. I will be recommending you and your team to all my friends and family.

I am in love with my home renovations. Real Construction was amazing to work with. They were reliable, honest, hard working and even got the projects done in time! They made sure to not inconvenience us at all in the process, always asking what worked with our schedule when closing an area of the house off for work. They did a beautiful job installing hardwood floors, recessed lighting, crown molding, giving my bathroom a complete makeover with beautiful tiling and finishes. My kitchen also looks amazing with the beautiful granite countertops and backsplash. I would recommend Real Construction 100 times over to any of my friends and family.

My experience was truly outstanding. I had a new deck built by Real Construction. The things that impressed me the most was the support I got when it came down to planning what I wanted. I needed a lot of help to finalize the project. Asi (general manager) did several revisions of drawings and didn't hesitate to come over several times until we got it right. The crew that was on site was experienced and hard working. They were very flexible about a few changes I wanted to make during construction, it was easy to get good advice and to fine tune the project. The new deck came out great and exceeded my expectations. I am most thankful to Real Construction for all their hard work and dedication and the fellow yelp users who had helped me to find an excellent contractor for the job.

We were very happy with the work that Real Construction did to our home. Asi was very nice to work with and his employees were experienced and worked very clean. They painted a large portion of our house (inside and out), fencing, and fixed cracked hardscape in our backyard.
They also showed up when they said they would, which was a big plus!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information
